Introducing the ID. Cross
Volkswagen is planning to launch a new electric compact SUV: The ID. Cross is intended to be an affordable entry-level model for the European market. The vehicle is currently being presented as a near-production study, which is still traveling in striking camouflage in the city of Amsterdam. The production version is announced for autumn 2026, and the starting price is expected to be around 28,000 euros.

Target Group and Application Area
This model is aimed at buyers looking for a practical and affordable electric mobility solution in the compact segment. With five seats and optimized space utilization, the ID. Cross is designed to impress both in urban daily life and on longer journeys. Volkswagen emphasizes the everyday usability of the SUV, which, despite its compact dimensions, is intended to offer sufficient comfort and storage space.
Design and Interior
Visually, the ID. Cross follows the new Volkswagen "Pure Positive" design language. The exterior is characterized by clear lines, balanced proportions, and a subtly elegant design that still appears high-quality.
In the interior, Volkswagen relies on a clear layout with easily accessible controls and large-format displays. According to the manufacturer, materials and workmanship are based on higher vehicle classes, which is intended to convey a premium impression without complicating usability.
Drive and Battery Options
Technically, the ID. Cross will be offered in several power variants: 85 kW, 99 kW, and 155 kW. In addition, there will be two battery sizes with 37 kWh and 52 kWh net to cover both city driving and longer journeys.
For charging, the vehicle supports DC fast charging with up to 90 kW, with the larger battery allowing up to 105 kW. This combination of compact dimensions and efficient drive is intended to enable a flexible user experience and increase everyday usability.

Market Positioning
With its affordable entry price, compact design, and modern technical features, Volkswagen is specifically positioning the ID. Cross in the growing segment of electric compact SUVs. The vehicle is intended as an entry-level solution to attract new buyers to electric mobility and to retain existing customers to the brand.
The combination of an affordable price, efficient space utilization, and powerful drive underscores Volkswagen's strategy to make electric mobility accessible to the mass market. At the same time, the ID. Cross paves the way for an expansion of the electric model range in the coming years.
