Technical Update for Europe's Compact Electric SUV
The all-electric Puma is one of Ford's most successful models on the European market. Just one year after its market launch, the compact crossover is now receiving an update primarily focused on efficiency and driving comfort. Key aspects include an increased usable battery capacity and new assistance features for longer journeys.
With this update, the manufacturer is responding to increasing expectations in the small electric vehicle segment, especially concerning range and everyday usability.

Larger Battery Provides More Range
A central advancement concerns the energy storage. The usable capacity increases from 43 kWh to now 46.8 kWh. According to the manufacturer, this adjustment is not based on an entirely new battery, but on an optimized internal structure.
This measure increases the official WLTP range from 376 kilometers to 417 kilometers. For a vehicle of this size class, this represents a noticeable gain, especially in urban use and occasional overland journeys.
Despite the improved efficiency, the maximum charging power remains unchanged at 100 kW. This slightly extends the charging time from 10 to 80 percent to about 26 minutes, compared to approximately 23 minutes previously.
Powertrain Remains Unchanged
In contrast to the battery, the electric powertrain has not been adjusted. The front motor still delivers 165 hp and provides a torque of 290 Nm.
Driving performance also remains identical: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.4 seconds. This positions the model as a balanced vehicle for everyday use, without emphasizing sporty ambitions.
Introduction of Hands-Free Driving on the Highway
One of the most important innovations is the integration of Ford's assistance system BlueCruise. This makes the Puma Gen-E the smallest model from the manufacturer to receive this technology so far.
The system enables hands-free driving on certain, previously mapped highway sections. In these "Blue Zones," the vehicle independently manages:

Adaptation to traffic flow
Despite this automation, driver attention remains required. The system continuously monitors whether the driver is observing traffic and prompts them to take over if necessary.
Availability and Use of BlueCruise
BlueCruise will be offered as standard in the Puma Gen-E through a new trim level called BlueCruise Edition. In other variants, the system can be added as an option.
Additionally, a paid subscription is required for use, which can be concluded monthly or annually. This model aligns with the growing trend of activating software features in vehicles retrospectively.
The technology itself was introduced in Europe in 2023 and received regulatory approval for the first time in connection with the Mustang Mach-E. It is now gradually being rolled out to other models.
Modernized Interior and Infotainment
In addition to the technical adjustments, the standard equipment has also been updated. The latest Sync 4 system is used, which offers an improved user interface and extended connectivity features.

In terms of audio, the basic model starts with a six-speaker system. Higher-equipped variants feature an enhanced sound system with 10 speakers and a total output of 650 watts, developed in collaboration with B&O.

Positioning in the Segment
With this update, Ford strengthens the Puma Gen-E's position in the growing market of compact electric vehicles. The combination of slightly increased range, modern software, and advanced assistance features shows that even smaller models are increasingly benefiting from technologies previously reserved for higher classes.
At the same time, the vehicle remains deliberately conservative technically, for example, concerning the powertrain or charging power. This indicates that the focus remains on cost control and everyday usability, rather than maximum performance.
