Products
Below are some common questions about EVDANCE EV chargers and charging cables.
Which EV charger is right for my car?
The right charger depends on your vehicle's charging port, onboard AC charging capacity and available power supply.
Most modern European EVs and plug-in hybrids use a Type 2 charging inlet. Before purchasing, check:
- Your vehicle's charging connector
- Maximum AC charging power
- Available socket type
- Single-phase or three-phase power supply
- Maximum supported current
If you are unsure, contact us with your vehicle model and a photo of your socket, and we will help you choose a compatible charger.
How do I know which plug type I need?
Check the power outlet available at your charging location before purchasing. EVDANCE offers portable EV chargers for different socket types, including Schuko, CEE and Type G. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your socket and your vehicle model, and our team will help you choose the correct charger.
Which EV brands are compatible with EVDANCE chargers?
EVDANCE Type 2 chargers are compatible with most European electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids equipped with an IEC 62196-2 Type 2 AC charging inlet, including many models from Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, Renault, Peugeot and others. Always confirm your vehicle's charging connector before purchasing.
What is a Type 2 EV charger?
Type 2 is the standard AC charging connector used by most modern electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in Europe.
EVDANCE Type 2 portable EV chargers are designed for compatible Type 2 vehicles and are available with different power input options, including Schuko, Type G and CEE connections.
What is a Type 2 EV charging cable?
EVDANCE Type 2 portable EV chargers are designed for compatible Type 2 vehicles and are available with different power input options, including Schuko, Type G and CEE connections.
Do all electric vehicles use the same charging connector?
No. Charging connectors vary by vehicle, region and charging method.
Most modern European EVs use a Type 2 connector for AC charging, but you should always check your vehicle specifications before purchasing a charger or charging cable.
What is the difference between a CEE charger and a Schuko charger?
A Schuko EV charger connects to a standard European household socket and is generally intended for lower-power single-phase charging.
A CEE EV charger connects to an industrial CEE socket, which can provide higher continuous power depending on the socket and electrical installation.
For example, a compatible 400V three-phase CEE 16A supply can support charging up to approximately 11kW.
Can I plug a CEE EV charger directly into a Schuko socket?
No. A CEE charger is designed to connect to the corresponding CEE socket and cannot be plugged directly into a standard Schuko household socket.
Some EVDANCE charger models may be supplied with or support a compatible Schuko adapter. When using an adapter, charging power will be limited by the household socket, adapter and electrical circuit.
Always use an adapter that is specifically compatible with your charger.
Can I use a Schuko adapter with my CEE charger?
Some EVDANCE CEE charger models support a compatible Schuko adapter. When connected through a Schuko adapter, the charger operates from a single-phase household power supply, so the charging power will be lower than when connected directly to a compatible three-phase CEE socket. Please check the product description to confirm whether a Schuko adapter is included or supported.
What is the difference between CEE 16A 5-pin and CEE 32A 3-pin?
A red CEE 16A 5-pin socket is commonly used with a 400V three-phase supply and can support charging up to approximately 11kW.
A blue CEE 32A 3-pin socket is commonly used with a 230V single-phase supply and can support charging up to approximately 7.36kW.
Actual charging power depends on your electrical supply, charger settings and vehicle's onboard charger.
Do I need three-phase electricity for an 11kW EV charger?
Yes, to achieve approximately 11kW AC charging, you normally need a compatible 400V three-phase power supply and a vehicle that supports three-phase AC charging.
If the charger is connected to a single-phase supply or your vehicle only supports single-phase charging, the actual charging power will be lower.
Can I use an 11kW charger with a vehicle that only supports 7.4kW AC charging?
Yes, provided the connector and electrical supply are compatible.
However, the vehicle will only draw up to its supported AC charging rate. An 11kW charger will not force the vehicle to accept 11kW if its onboard charger supports a lower maximum power.
Why is my 11kW EV charger charging at less than 11kW?
The charger's rated power is the maximum possible output under compatible conditions.
Actual charging power may be limited by:
- Your electrical supply
- Socket type
- Selected charging current
- Vehicle onboard charger
- Battery state of charge
- Vehicle charging settings
- Use of an adapter
The charging speed is determined by the lowest-rated component in the charging system.
Can I adjust the charging current?
Many EVDANCE portable EV chargers support adjustable charging current, allowing you to match the charging load to your socket and electrical circuit. Available current settings vary by model, so please check the product specifications before purchasing.
Is it safe to charge an EV from a household Schuko socket?
A compatible portable EV charger can be used with a properly installed and grounded Schuko socket, provided the socket and household circuit are suitable for continuous charging.
For regular EV charging, we recommend checking the condition and capacity of the electrical circuit and avoiding damaged, loose or overloaded sockets. If you are unsure about your electrical installation, consult a qualified electrician.
What happens if the charger gets too hot?
Compatible EVDANCE portable EV chargers include temperature monitoring and safety protection features. If an unsafe temperature is detected, the charger may reduce the charging current or temporarily stop charging to help protect the plug, charger and electrical circuit.
Protection features vary by model, so please check the individual product specifications.
Can I leave my EV charger plugged in overnight?
Yes, compatible EVDANCE portable EV chargers are designed for normal unattended charging when connected to a suitable electrical supply and used according to the product instructions.
The charger and vehicle manage the charging process automatically and charging will stop or reduce once the vehicle reaches its configured charge level. Always ensure the socket, cable and charger are in good condition before use.
Do I need an electrician to install a portable EV charger?
Portable EV chargers normally do not require permanent wallbox installation when used with an existing compatible and correctly installed socket.
However, installing a new CEE socket, upgrading electrical wiring or modifying an electrical circuit should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with local regulations.
Can I charge my EV outdoors?
Many EVDANCE portable EV chargers are designed for indoor and outdoor use and feature weather-resistant housings.
Please check the IP rating and operating instructions of your specific charger. Avoid placing plugs or connectors in standing water and always use a properly installed electrical outlet.
